Responsible Ethical Slow Creative Experiential Journeys

  • Slow journeys through art, food, and culture.

Hosted experiences for independent creative travellers.

Art Food Culture creates intimate journeys through carefully selected regions.

Each experience is designed for depth, presence, and creative engagement.

Hosted by Anna Barnes, Founder of Art Food Culture, alongside experienced senior local guides.

    THE EXPERIENCES

Small group, hosted journeys through culturally rich regions.
One region per trip. No rushing. No surface travel.

    Each journey is designed around:

    • Art

    • Food

    • Culture

    • Creative practice

    • Local connection

We remain in place long enough to understand it.

    CREATIVE PRACTICE

Creative sessions are optional and fluid.
You work within your own chosen practice.

    There is no formal instruction.

Time and space are held for your work to respond to place, rhythm, and lived experience.

These journeys suit independent creatives with an established personal voice.

Photographers. Writers. Chefs. Visual storytellers. Designers. Journallers.

    FOOD & CULTURE

Food is experienced in full context.

Street food. Markets. Family kitchens. Local institutions.
Refined dining, selected for relevance rather than trend.

Each encounter is chosen for cultural meaning, not performance.

    ACCOMMODATION

Carefully selected boutique hotels and private villas.
    Locally owned. Intimate. Considered.

All guests stay in private rooms with en-suite bathrooms.
    Wi-Fi and power included.

    No single supplement applies.

    HOST

Anna, Founder of Art Food Culture, brings a deeply personal approach to hosting — shaped by curiosity, humour, sensitivity, and a lifelong engagement with culture and human experience.

The role of the host is continuity, access, and creative framing —
ensuring the journey remains seamless, informed, and intentional.

Each journey is held with care, openness, and grounded presence.

Supported by senior multilingual local guides.

    GROUP SIZE

    Intentionally small.
    Typically 8 guests.

    Independent travellers.
Coming together through shared creative intent.

    SLOW ETHICAL TRAVEL

    We travel with restraint.

    One region per journey.
    Depth over coverage.
    Time over speed.

We move with awareness of place, people, and rhythm.

    TRAVEL STYLE

    We pack lightly and practically.

One special outfit is enough for evenings.

    Carry-on luggage is sufficient.

Guests travel independently and comfortably manage their own luggage.

We value simplicity, ease, and movement without excess.

    CULTURAL APPROACH

We support local social enterprises, particularly those focused on education for girls and community development.

We actively engage with living culture rather than curated tourism.

We do not travel to collect sights, but to understand place.

    PRACTICAL NOTES

Art, Food & Culture Experiences are typically announced and confirmed no less than 120 days prior to departure.

Many departures book out up to a year in advance.

    NOT SURE WHERE TO START

If you are unsure which journey is right for you, please schedule a call with us before booking.

We are happy to guide you toward the most suitable experience.

  • Hosted by Anna Barnes, Founder of Art Food Culture.

A considered collection of boutique hotels and private villas.
Locally owned. Rich in character. Chosen for place.

    Cuisine explored in full —
street, home, market, and quietly refined tables.

    Creative sessions remain fluid.
Time and space are held for your chosen practice to unfold naturally, shaped by context, light, and culture.

    No formal instruction.
    Only access, atmosphere, and perspective.

A gathering of independent creatives — many travelling solo —
drawn together by a shared way of seeing.
    Personal, yet quietly collective.

Guided throughout by Anna and senior local hosts.
    Seamless. Intuitive. Unforced.

Journeys move with intention across regions,
    revealing depth over surface.

    Travel light. Carry-on is enough.

For those who seek more than observation —
to immerse, to connect, to create.

  • Select journeys are led by a guest artist, engaged to deliver a dedicated creative program.

    A more structured rhythm.
Eight 3-hour sessions, unless otherwise specified.

Held in private studios, classrooms, or considered indoor settings,
    aligned to the artist’s practice.

    These journeys are intentionally art-focused.
Time is protected for discipline, technique, and development under expert guidance.

Cultural experiences are more selectively layered,
allowing space for sustained creative work.

    Guided by the guest artist,
    alongside our senior local hosts.

    Refined. Focused. Immersive.

  • Our journeys attract thoughtful, curious, and creatively engaged travellers from around the world.

    Intelligent. Observant. Open. Adventurous.
    Quietly confident, or boldly expressive.

Some arrive already immersed in creative practice.
Others are at a threshold — seeking clarity, renewal, or a return to something essential.

Many come with a quiet recognition: that creative connection is what they have been missing.

    CREATIVE PRACTICE

These journeys are open to all levels of experience.

From first-time practitioners to established artists, each guest is supported within their own mode of expression.

Studio artists. Writers. Photographers. Designers. Chefs. Textile Artisans & Visual storytellers.

Non-creatives are equally welcomed, supported by the structure of the journey and the care of our senior local hosts.

There is no hierarchy of skill — only depth of engagement.

    CONNECTION

    Many guests return.

Some describe it as finding their people. Others return simply because the experience stays with them.

Connection here is unforced, natural, and quietly held.

    Everyone is welcome.

    THE EXPERIENCE

Designed for independent travellers who value both privacy and shared creative presence.

Small groups create ease, familiarity, and subtle connection without obligation.

The environment is safe, supported, and carefully considered — allowing full engagement with place, culture, and self.

    VALUES & COMMUNITY

These journeys are inclusive, safe, and welcoming to all.

We do not discriminate on the basis of gender, identity, or background.

Women are not referred to as “girls”.

Trans, non-binary, pan, and fluid identities are warmly welcomed. Pronouns are respected.

We are LGBTQIA+ inclusive and welcoming, and also hetero friendly.

English is a shared language, but not a requirement of belonging. Guests join us from around the world.

We value patience, care, and respect for one another throughout the journey.

We hold space for difference — cultural, personal, and political — without it disrupting connection.

We are open to gentle discomfort when it leads to deeper understanding and learning.

Friendships form naturally, often lasting well beyond the journey itself.

There is humour, warmth, and a shared ease — with plenty of laughter along the way.
