  • “My art journey with Judy started approximately 4 years ago during COVID, entirely online via Zoom.

I started with very little  knowledge of watercolour techniques, paints, paper, brushes etc.

My first attempt was interesting,  but with Judy’s encouraging and supportive teaching style

I have kept going, with results that continue to amaze me.

Judy's calmness, patience and positive attitude ensure that all her students are rewarded with success.

Judy’s lessons are well prepared, with images sent pre Zoom, a detailed summary of the lesson is sent after the session.

If students want to post their work via What’s App, she will write a detailed, and extremely helpful critique.

I have also attended overseas workshops with Judy.

Always lots of fun, with the formation of lovely friendships.

These have taken sketching to another level; en plein air.

Again, Judy’s patience and guidance is invaluable, as all her students receive hands on, individual time.

Each day concludes with a throw down of our work for all to see, and to make non-judgemental comments.

Judy is constantly looking for ways to extend and develop our skills. Every week provides new challenges.

Judy’s enthusiasm for art is infectious, and I am so grateful that our paths crossed, and I have been able to explore and enjoy this wonderful journey. “

“Judy loves plein air painting and she really excels at showing her students how to achieve results in this sometimes difficult pursuit. She always has some printed material for you, either emailed or handed out on location. These are a marvellous resources, full of tips on colour, drawing and planning your work. She is lots of fun, really caring and endlessly patient and s goes that extra mile to help her students achieve great results. You’ll come away with a book full of gorgeous paintings and wonderful memories.”

"You have no idea how great it has been for me to have lessons with Judy, the art has really filled the void for me.  There is so much out there but Judy’s is do-able....not too complex, not too large, and step by step instructions.  Thanks for the help in person and with zoom technology...I would have never done it without your help".

    Janet W

“Thank you for being such a thorough and generous teacher.  Zoom classes are proving advantageous for me regarding my art. I got a lot out of the course.”

  • With over 30 years of experience across both creative and commercial art, Judy is a versatile artist who brings energy, warmth, and expertise to every workshop and class. She works in a wide range of mediums—Watercolour, Sketching, Gouache, Acrylics, and Soft Pastels—giving her students the freedom to explore and find their own artistic voice.

Her career has been as diverse as her art: she has run a successful screen-printing and design business in the UK, created T-shirt and greeting card designs, taught Batik in Malaysia, and exhibited her work across Australia and the UK. Her artwork has also reached unexpected audiences, appearing in sketching books, hotels, restaurants, and even an American Express ad campaign.

Teaching, however, is where Judy truly shines. Having taught extensively in Australia and internationally, she is passionate about guiding students to embrace sketching and watercolour with confidence. Through step-by-step demonstrations, personal feedback, and plenty of encouragement, she inspires students to experiment, take risks, and, as she often says, “put your brave pants on and have a go!”

Judy is active in the Sydney arts community and serves as Workshop Organiser and Deputy Vice President for the Northern Beaches Art Society. She runs weekly in-person and online classes for a global audience and regularly hosts weekend workshops as well as overseas sketching holidays—blending travel, culture, and creativity in unforgettable experiences.

Whether at home in Sydney or abroad on a sketching adventure, Judy’s teaching is all about helping people discover the joy of sketching, the beauty of observation, and the freedom of self-expression.
