Vietnam Travel Photography & Sketching Tour
Etienne Bossot & Anna Barnes
1-10 June 2020
Hoi An - Trung Son Mountains - Hue - Danang
This Retreat is for everyone of any sex, age, race, religion or walk of life that would like to experience daily Photography and Sketching workshops. The emphasis is on creativity, authentic cultural experiences and learning new skills.
We focus on Photography & Sketching. Art, Food & Culture.
Your host Anna Barnes (founder of ArtFoodCulture, long term traveller to Hoi An, chef and artist) and Etienne Bossot (founder of Pics Of Asia, long term resident of Vietnam, teacher and professional photographer) have come together to carefully curate this experience for you. Etienne has been running Photo tours in central Vietnam for over 10 years and knows all the best locations in the area, at the best time of the day. We bring you the best of central Vietnam in terms of people and landscape photography. Anna has been sketching the people, markets and food of Central Vietnam for almost 10 years, and you will taste her favourite dishes, meet her favourite vendors, and sketch in her favourite locations.
Anna has been sketching the markets, streets and food of Vietnam for the past 10 years. She will show you how to be comfortable in the centre of a bustling Vietnamese market. Grab a bowl of something delicious, whip out your sketchbook and proceed to connect with the locals by absorbing yourself in the creative pursuit of travel sketching. Daily workshops in her favourite locations will help you fill your travel journal with memories. You will be guided with beginner steps, and in no time you will find yourself enjoying this rewarding hobby. For the advanced sketcher, Anna will challenge you and provide incredible inspiration in authentic situations you will cherish for life.
Etienne offers expert, small group & one-on-one instruction throughout the tour. We head off the beaten track to find the most rewarding people to photograph in the most photogenic locations across central Vietnam. Throughout the tour, Etienne provides both structured and spontaneous teaching, tailored to your needs, with regular chances to review and assess the images you’ve just taken. His emphasis is on helping you to grow as a photographer. How do we do this? By providing you with unique opportunities to take stunning images, express your creativity and improve your skills day by day.
The food represents its people. The food represents its culture.
We eat the freshest and best local food in Vietnam. Street food is time based, which means food stalls “pop up” and serve local seasonal dishes until all sold out. Vendors specialise in serving one dish only, and over generations, have mastered them to perfection. Anna has had years of experience in Central Vietnam, and has narrowed it down to the best local fare for her guests to enjoy. She was a chef for 30 years and holds a food safety certificate, so is able to spot the most delicious eateries on offer. Etienne has his favourites too, and Anna admits…he is pretty good a choosing a good local restaurant!
The best part of a tour with us is connecting with local culture. The people of central Vietnam have a fascinating history, a unique way of life and are welcoming hosts. Learn to see what we experience, experience what we see, participate in hands on activities, and connect with the people and their lives to further develop a deeper understanding of Vietnam.
This tour begins with Hoi An old town, before heading west up into Trung Son Mountains to stay overnight in a Co Tu Village. Next we head along the northern coastline to the lagoons around Hue, and then explore the perfume river and the verdant countryside which surrounds it. Our last night is on My Khe Beach in Danang, easy access to your final airport departure.
Small group maximum 10 guests. This will ensure you will receive plenty of personal tuition during the sessions.

Your Host Etienne Bossot
A teacher with a photography habit, Etienne’s true passion is enabling other photographers to find and create better images of the places that mean most to him. He believes that the best way to learn is to teach and he’s happiest helping fellow photographers to improve.
Pics of Asia was initially a one-person show, but Etienne has now assembled a team of outstanding photography guides and teachers, all based –as he is –in Asia. Although each of them is a unique individual, they share Etienne’s vision: hands-on photography tuition in image-rich environments.
Etienne’s deep love for Asia shines through in every picture he takes. He has an appreciation for authentic Asian locations, cultures and traditions that breaks down barriers, and lets you get closer to the people you most want to photograph. He’s an instructor with an artist’s soul.
