A blustery winters day in The Blue Mountains, but as I approached Cabramatta I could feel it getting warmer. I even took my coat off once I arrived. Its always fun to Sketch in Cabramatta. It would have to be the best suburb in Sydney! In terms of sketching and chefs delights, does it get any better? I met our lovely group at The Water Buffalo on Freedom Plaza, then we headed for a Vietnamese Coffee. Some of the group ordered all sorts of different drinks on the menu that I didn't even know where Vietnamese. Actually, I think some of them were not! I always encourage students to try the Ca Phe Sua Da. Vietnamese iced coffee made with sweetened condensed miljk. Did you know that Vietnam is the second biggest coffee grower in world We sketched, then we shopped the local markets. I helped students choose the best fish sauce, the most cinvinient Pho spices and how to interpret the rice noodle selection. Then we headed through the suburb for a delicious lunch and some more sketching. Next Sketch&Lunch is August 27th in China Town. We will be eating Malaysian. Bookings here.
The final class of term 2 was an open day. All past students were invited. Many were away and some couldn't make it, but we still had plenty turn up for a fun class. I baked delicious cakes for everyone to enjoy, tea and coffee was served, then it was time for some sketching. Take a look at what we did. Some of these sketchers have only attended a workshop or 1 term of classes. Some complete beginners, and some more experienced.
Our last class for the Term, and a chilly day too, so we headed to The Carrington Hotel. A perfect sketching location. First we had a fabulous coffee in The Cellars, and sketched the dark moody atmosphere, experimenting with blacks and using sketcher Marina Grechanik as inspiration. Then we headed to the warm lounge with fire place for more drinks and an art deco vibe. A fun last day for this group.
Our final class of the Term. We put into practice all we have been learning about Travel Sketching and took a train journey from Katoomba to Mount Victoria. We sketched on the platform and our weather app said 0.4C! Oh my! After our little fingers froze, we headed to the heated waiting room to finish our first sketch. A train ride to Mount Victoria where we enjoyed a coffee and then a train back to Katoomba. Little vingnettes were captured and our sketches told a story of our adventure. Bookings for Term 3 are open HERE
This week we visited the wonderful grounds and house of one of our sketchers! Karen lives on a beautiful property in Leura, and she invited us all for to sketch at her place. We were served delicious coffee and homemade brownies, then delighted in the garden views and sketched in the warmth. What another lovely day was had. We were inspired by Koosje Koene http://koosjekoene.com/ and our sketches show what we liked about her style.
